Musica Celestis - Excelsa Voces - 4th May

An exciting evening of music is coming to St. Saviour's Church, Tetbury on Friday May 4th. The vocal ensemble Excelsa Voces, formed in 2016 and led by soprano Paula Evans, present performances that blend medieval and contemporary music into an immersive experience, exploring the acoustic of the venue and enhancing the music with an environment of subtle colour and candlelight. The group have been working with the Churches Conservation Trust to bring their music to some of the Trust’s buildings and to support the work that the Trust does in preserving them. For the concert in this beautiful Victorian church the quintet of singers are joined by cellist Tom McMahon and keyboard player and composer Chris Long, in a programme of music ranging from 12th century chant to contemporary works by Gavin Bryars, Joby Talbot, Morton Lauridsen and others. Excelsa Voces concerts have been described as ‘ethereal’ and ‘utterly superb’: later this year the group will be performing at Edinburgh Festival, giving the premiere performance of a work specially written for them by Robert Fripp (of King Crimson) and Andrew Keeling. Catch them in May for ‘An evening of extraordinary beauty’. Tickets are £15 from www.excelsavoces.com and from the Town Council office on Long Street. The concert begins at 7.30pm and refreshments will be served.
